It’s the truth. Sorry I’m not providing photo evidence, but you’re better off just using your imagination. My former boss once reacted to it by calling it “very Golden Girls.” I took that as a compliment, naturally.

So, here I sit at SFO waiting patiently to board my flight to Portland. I’m using my shiny new Macbook Air which has improved my quality of life exponentially, but I unfortunately haven’t had time to upload any photos from my iMac, hence the Portlandia image up top, which is relevant yet impersonal, but whatever. It’s all good.

I know it’s tacky to talk about how one has been avoiding the blogosphere for an extended period time, but I’m going to do just that and outline what have been huge (but productive) and/or great time sucks for me:

  • My Sister Got Married! – That’s right, kids. And with a wedding comes lots of events, lots of time with family (which was really great, my family is a lot of fun), and of course dancing, good food, and laughs.
  • San Francisco Holiday Renegade Craft Fair – which involved crocheting and planning every day. EVERY DAY. EVERY WEEKEND. It’s fun and was totally worth all of the work, but it didn’t really allow for much else… the exact reason why I am happy to not be a full time crafterprenuer. Yes, I made that word up. It probably exists.
  • Sewing – Once Renegade was over, my wrists rejoiced and I dove right into my “to sew” pile which currently consists of 4 dresses and 1 top. Fabric has been cut, everything is slowly being assembled. And I’m still very much in love with my serger.
  • Reading – I reached my goal of reading 30 books in 2011! Yes. Thank you for the applause. You can take a look at what I read here.
  • Reuniting with Friends – Well, not really reuniting. I see my SF friends on either a weekly or bi-weekly basis, but due to craft fair stuff I became somewhat of a hermit, actually announcing my ‘hermit weeks’ in various social media, as a way of warning my friends to not ask me to hang out. I’m kind of a jerk, no? I try not to be. Also, my friends are the coolest people on Earth.
  • Freelance & Pro-Bono Projects – I just finished my 3rd commissioned logo last week, and this week got the great news that I’ve been chosen to be on an amaaaazing Taproot project that I’ll be starting work on soon. 2012 is going to be a great year for my professional life. I can feel it. (At least I hope so!)

Anyway, I’m going to do another post that goes over my 2012 Resolutions, as well as my 2011 Year in Review. All of these things are written and in my ‘drafts’, so stay tuned.

But, back to vacation mode…

This is my first time ever traveling to Oregon, and although I hear it’s going to be quite chilly, I’ve been looking forward to this all month. I’m especially excited to see my Seattleite friends whom I have not seen for over a year. OVER A YEAR. That is just unacceptable. I’m happy to be remedying this this weekend. I have my Instax Mini, emergency granola bars in my purse, and my trusty Hello Kitty umbrella handy. Will post more about the trip when I get back!

Djuna: The Most Dramatic Cat You May Ever Meet

by tatiana on November 29, 2011

A few weeks ago, my roommate informed me that we had a new roomie… a cat named Djuna. Growing up in a family where practically everyone is allergic to cats, I’ve never lived with a cat before – but I did house-sit for two weeks once and got along quite well with the two cats who lived there, so I was pretty excited at the prospect of living with a feisty feline. My Revamped Little Corner

by tatiana on April 6, 2011

I don’t even know if I could call this a “revamp” because technically… before this, the corner of my room was pretty bland, and CROWDED. There lived my hamper, my plastic dresser from college,  rubbermaid boxes full of fabric, more fabric on top, a box of patterns and some oversized books. Man oh man. A few days before my sisters and cousin were supposed to arrive into town, I decided that I needed to clean things up… and FINALLY hang some of the frames I’d purchased over a year ago. Viktor & Rolf vs. Bath & Body Works

by tatiana on December 30, 2010

Over at Casa Jimenez, my family decided that since my sister will be getting married in 2011, we should cut back on spending at Christmas. There are 6 people in my family, so things can get a little pricey. We decided that it would be best to pull names from a hat this year.

Then, I think we all independently decided to STILL buy things for the other family members whose names we did not pull, by calling it a “stocking stuffer”. So I bought a bunch of cool stuff from Japantown (my new favorite SF neighborhood) for my mom and sisters and got my Dad a Starbucks gift card… because, really, what is my Dad gonna do with a Hello Kitty change purse, or cute facial tissues? Anyway, my mom, being the straightforward woman she is, just sent me an email asking me what I wanted from “SantaMom.” I made a pretty comprehensive list which included things I will not buy myself, one item in particular being:

Flowerbomb by Viktor and Rolf, which retails for around $125 at Walgreens

So, because my Mom is totally awesome and my bargain shopping guru, she did not buy me Flowerbomb but INSTEAD bought me this bad boy:

Black Amethyst by Bath & Body Works, retails around $15

When I pulled it out of my stocking, I was like… what is this? But then I smelled it… and to my surprise it smelled ALOT like Flowerbomb. How did she do it? “How did you do this!?” I asked my Mom. And she responded “I just picked the fragrance at Bath & Body Works that smelled the stuffiest.” Despite the slight jab at my preference in fragrance, she did a really great job. We laughed, I sprayed the Black Amethyst and shook my head in half amazement, half embarrassment. It was a pretty great Christmas.

Documenting My Days in 2011

by tatiana on December 29, 2010

One of my little goals for 2011, and hopefully the years to come, is to keep a little record of the tidbits of my days. I’m really proactive about keeping my Google Calendar up to date with upcoming events, so I thought it would be a nice change to keep record of things that happened during my day. Just a few things – filling out nothing in advance. I decided to use this Sanrio pocket calendar that I got for free.

This was inspired by my friend Jane’s mom. She was given her mom’s purse from the 1980s which contained, amongst other cool remnants of the past, her mom’s daily journal. It was a simple datebook in which she jotted down a few things that happened each day. We were both really inspired by this little historical relic.

Reading Survey Time

by tatiana on December 3, 2010

It’s Friday! That means, we’re all counting down to the weekend. It also means, downtime! (Or, at least we can hope). And in my down time, I like to read. I got “tagged” to fill out this reading survey on Facebook, but I figured it would be more fun to slap it in a blog post. Because I’m crazy violent with words like that. Also, it’s 1:30am right now and I may or may not know what I am typing. I’m somewhere between conscious and subconscious, so let’s see what happens, shall we?

1. What author do you own the most books by? Probably Sohpie Kinsella. Don’t hate.

2. What book do you own the most copies of? I don’t own more than one copy of any book. Although, on my desk right now I have two copies of Prison for Bitches, which is a Lady Gaga fanzine. I bought one copy for myself, and one for my sister who is a HUGE fan. Can’t wait to give it to her for Christmas!

Sick Daze

by tatiana on November 17, 2010

I seemed to have caught “that thing going around.” There always seems to be something going around and normally I’m pretty good at dodging it. Not this time! Friggin. Anyway, having the day “off” I finally had time to download and listen to the new Girl Talk album, All Day. Go download it ASAP! It will brighten your tissue and phlegm-filled day… at least, it brightened mine. Also, I heard a rumor from a bearded bird that he will be playing at the Fox Theater in March. I can’t wait to get sweaty and have the time of my life a second time!

It's Only Tuesday?

by tatiana on November 9, 2010

So, a few things on this crisp, cold, but oddly sunny Tuesday morning:

1.) Remember that movie with Steve Martin and Bonnie Hunt where they have too many kids and it’s like an hour and a half of pandemonium? That’s what my bus was like this morning.
2.) In more positive kid news, an adorable little boy in the coffee shop just started exclaiming to me in a really excited way about how his big sister had to stay home from school today because she’s sick and has to go to the doctor. I know he’s just totally stoked that he has sibling company for the day. So cute.

3.) Ever since I watched Louis C.K. the other day, I’ve been on a stand-up kick. Last night I watched Anjelah Johnson do her thang. I’m totally lovin this chick. Hee-larious.
4.) Lastly, I have really big news comin at ya this weekend! “Hold on to your butts.” – Jurassic Park
