Upcycle Sundays: The 9 to 5 Ascot Blouse Revival with Babushka Designs

Hi guys! I hope everyone’s getting in gear for Halloween! I know I am. Anyway, a few weeks ago I guest posted a vintage blouse DIY that you should check out if you haven’t done so already! It might come in handy if you’re altering thrifted tops for those upcycled costumes. Have a happy and safe Halloween!

Also, if you aren’t already, follow me on Pinterest!

Adventures in Serging

by tatiana on July 4, 2011

Hope you’re all having a lovely 4th of July. I must say I’m a little jealous of everyone I’m seeing on the blogosphere hanging out in pools. I may not be the best swimmer, but I loves me a pool! [click to continue…]

Monday Inspiration: We the People

by tatiana on June 27, 2011

All photos from: We the People

I don’t know about you, but here in San Francisco it’s getting a little warmer, pale girls like me are getting a little more color, and lots and lots of festivals are coming up which can only mean one thing – it’s time to revamp my dreary winter wardrobe. [click to continue…]

As many of you know by now (since I won’t stop talking about it) Babushka Designs will be a part of Unique LA next month! Click here for more details, and to RSVP.

Aside from crocheting and knitting like crazy to get ready for the show, I decided to re-shoot everything to make the shop and my marketing materials a little nicer (the camera on my iPhone is no longer cutting it!). My friend Evan shot the photos at my apartment this past weekend – it was SO MUCH FUN! (Click here to check out his work) I should have them sometime within the next week, but for now here are some behind the scenes shots I took.

As you can see above (photo by Jane), I was still in my workout clothes (I went to pilates that morning). Important lesson learned – always look photo-ready, but that’s ok. I’m keeping it real. I love how Marissa (the model) is looking at me like I’m crazy in this photo. And that’s Evan doing his thang on the right.

Every good photo shoot needs fun music to pump everyone up. About 10 minutes after taking this photo, I came to realize that the music I thought was fun, wasn’t what everyone else considered fun. We soon switched over to Party Favorites, and later, hip hop.

Last but not least, everyone knows models love popcorn chicken, fried cheese, and mini pizzas. So of course we had that handy.

That’s a wrap! Will be sharing the photos as soon as I get them. Yay!

This weekend, after failing in my attempts to make an Ikea run (long story), a friend and I decided to enjoy the pretty weather and take a stroll through the Mission. We happened upon Artillery Apparel Gallery, which neither of us had seen on Mission Street before, so we decided to check it out.

It’s a boutique full of handmade goods from local artists & designers. The bowties were super cute and the jewelry selection was a feast for the eyes (in a low-key boutique sort of way – even though the prices were still quite steep). The fella working at the shop was really sweet, and his personality alone made being in the shop an enjoyable experience. The innovative displays and sculptures were a really unique sight as well.

If you’re ever in the neighborhood, pay them a visit! Artillery Apparel Gallery, 2751 Mission St. (between 23rd & 24th), San Francisco, CA 94110

Hey, all. So I’ve decided that Tweeting my favorite links is just not enough. I want to document them here in my blog as well. Why? Why not! [click to continue…]

Sewing to the 80s

by tatiana on January 26, 2011

I’ve taken a mini break from crocheting to work on this dress that I’m planning on wearing to a work party. Yay! I haven’t sewn a dress from scratch in… er… well over a year. That is not good! This past weekend I went fabric shopping with a friend and found this fabulous mustard fabric that totally works for a vintage pattern that I bought at a vintage expo a few years ago. It’s a super cute 1960’s buttoned dress. I’ll post more photos when it’s complete! For now, you get this teaser photo.

As much as I love crocheting in front of the TV, I really do love sewing and listening to The Cure station on Pandora. Serious ear candy… Depeche Mode, Smashing Pumpkins, and my beloved New Order. Music is so inspiring, but I probably didn’t need to tell you that.

Somewhat Lazy Saturday

by tatiana on November 7, 2010

Happy Daylight Savings! The clock just struck 2am on my clock and 1am on my computer. I am super tired, but really excited about the new/old music I have acquired thanks to the mister and am revisiting the album Give Up by The Postal Service. Ahhh, freshman year at UC Irvine. Livin’ in Prado. How I miss it, but not too much.

Today was somewhat of a “couch potato” day. I haven’t watched that much TV in a really long time. I think I started with the LA Ink marathon, Millionaire Matchmaker, then 16 and Pregnant, onto some movies – Welcome to the Dollhouse and California Suite. After that it starts to get blurry. Although I sat on the couch all day (except for that part of the day I spent traveling to and from the Post Office and seeking out cupcakes), I was knitting up a storm. Yes, knitting. I’ve been crocheting like a madwoman (if madwomen crochet) for a few weeks and decided to switch it up for a day. It was nice until I realized how much longer it takes to knit an item vs. crocheting it. Hot damn. But, in the end, knitting worked out better for this project (seen above). It should be launching in the shop in the next week or so. Keep an eye out! I’m really excited about it.
