Documenting My Days in 2011

by tatiana on December 29, 2010

One of my little goals for 2011, and hopefully the years to come, is to keep a little record of the tidbits of my days. I’m really proactive about keeping my Google Calendar up to date with upcoming events, so I thought it would be a nice change to keep record of things that happened during my day. Just a few things – filling out nothing in advance. I decided to use this Sanrio pocket calendar that I got for free.

This was inspired by my friend Jane’s mom. She was given her mom’s purse from the 1980s which contained, amongst other cool remnants of the past, her mom’s daily journal. It was a simple datebook in which she jotted down a few things that happened each day. We were both really inspired by this little historical relic.

It's Only Tuesday?

by tatiana on November 9, 2010

So, a few things on this crisp, cold, but oddly sunny Tuesday morning:

1.) Remember that movie with Steve Martin and Bonnie Hunt where they have too many kids and it’s like an hour and a half of pandemonium? That’s what my bus was like this morning.
2.) In more positive kid news, an adorable little boy in the coffee shop just started exclaiming to me in a really excited way about how his big sister had to stay home from school today because she’s sick and has to go to the doctor. I know he’s just totally stoked that he has sibling company for the day. So cute.

3.) Ever since I watched Louis C.K. the other day, I’ve been on a stand-up kick. Last night I watched Anjelah Johnson do her thang. I’m totally lovin this chick. Hee-larious.
4.) Lastly, I have really big news comin at ya this weekend! “Hold on to your butts.” – Jurassic Park

Somewhat Lazy Saturday

by tatiana on November 7, 2010

Happy Daylight Savings! The clock just struck 2am on my clock and 1am on my computer. I am super tired, but really excited about the new/old music I have acquired thanks to the mister and am revisiting the album Give Up by The Postal Service. Ahhh, freshman year at UC Irvine. Livin’ in Prado. How I miss it, but not too much.

Today was somewhat of a “couch potato” day. I haven’t watched that much TV in a really long time. I think I started with the LA Ink marathon, Millionaire Matchmaker, then 16 and Pregnant, onto some movies – Welcome to the Dollhouse and California Suite. After that it starts to get blurry. Although I sat on the couch all day (except for that part of the day I spent traveling to and from the Post Office and seeking out cupcakes), I was knitting up a storm. Yes, knitting. I’ve been crocheting like a madwoman (if madwomen crochet) for a few weeks and decided to switch it up for a day. It was nice until I realized how much longer it takes to knit an item vs. crocheting it. Hot damn. But, in the end, knitting worked out better for this project (seen above). It should be launching in the shop in the next week or so. Keep an eye out! I’m really excited about it.

Halloween is almost here…

by tatiana on October 28, 2010

and I haven’t even seen Bravo’s Scariest Movie Moments Countdown on my TV this year! Something is wrong with a network when they don’t air probably the best thing to happen to themed countdowns. If anyone knows when Bravo will be airing it, please let a sista know.

Anyway. In lieu of the amazing countdown of movie moments, here’s a fun, quick video that I’m sure you’ve seen, BUT YOU NEED TO SEE IT AGAIN. Because it’s spooky, and scary. Enjoy.

… ok, maybe not EVER, but it was pretty sweet. Why? Well, let me tell you.

1.) I bought my plane ticket to London today! (THE CROWD GOES WILD)

2.) My awesome cousin Ryan Martin had his solo exhibit opening this evening and it was even MORE amazing than I was expecting. So fun to see the neat space at Mark Wolfe Contemporary and see family. I’ll write much more about the show soon, but for now you can click here for more info.

3.) Lastly, I just became a pro bono consultant for the Taproot Foundation. They do amazing things for amazing organizations and I’m really excited to be a consultant and do my part! It’s been a while since I’ve done any volunteer work, so it’s about time I did something about it. Yay!

I hope you all had a dandy Thursday, and caught the live 30 Rock episode! Whaddup, Pacific Time!

Things things things

by tatiana on September 28, 2010

Sometimes life feels like it’s moving way faster than the speed limit. What is the speed limit of life? I don’t know, exactly, but things are moving at around 90 miles per hour these days. There’s so much I’d like to do/accomplish but so little time! So, I’m writing it out here. Why? Why not.

Business-Owning Bad-Ass

Well, not really, but doesn’t that sound catchy and awesome? I recently applied for a business license for my brand Babushka Designs in the county of San Francisco. It arrived on Saturday! Yayyyyy. What does this mean? It’s time to get serious…-er. I have so many ideas in this 8 lb. brain of mine (and in my fancy molskine) but time is the most important factor. I have 3 more slipper styles in the works, a handful of hats and some rad neckties that I need to finish up and get in the shop.

What’s that smell?

In other handmade news, have you seen my bedroom? And by my bedroom I more specifically mean, the pile of thrifted gold that’s laying on the floor? No? Well good because it’s crazy. I have about 5 dresses, 4 skirts and a sweater that I’ve accumulated over the past 6 or so months that need my attention. These things are dying to be worn around this kick ass town. I will be all over that this weekend, fo sho.

Working it.

In more techy news, mama needs to revamp her sad little website. I’ve been so focused on my blog and other web and print design projects that my personal site has fallen by the wayside. But, baby steps are acceptable at this point in time, so I will start by updating my portfolio, and adding a pdf of work samples to my blog. I think that would suffice, for now at least. As usual, I have big plans.

Anyway, I hope you all are having a wonderful Tuesday! Sorry this post is sans-photos (ahem, Cathy).

My Little Sister is Getting Married!!!

by tatiana on September 21, 2010

My sister Kristina (right) and me (left) at Yosemite circa 1989, in one of our many matching outfits. No, we are not twins. My mom didn’t seem to care.

I’m so so happy for my sister, but I think I’m still in shock. I mean, yeah, I cried and stuff. Tears of joy, of course, but it all still feels pretty surreal. My little sister is getting married. The girl who I used to get in fights with on a daily basis but who I still loved anyway. Oh man. This part of “growing up” is weird, but exciting and really emotional, in a good way. I’m so happy that Kristina asked me to be her Maid of Honor. This is gonna be fun!

Sunday Funday: Kitties, Yarn and Bagels

by tatiana on August 29, 2010

Everyone, meet Boo Yao, Boo Yao, this is everyone.

I’m currently house sitting, and have a new kitty “friend.” I use the term “friend” loosely as this kitty and I are still learning how to get along. Really, she’s a sweetheart, but she’s just always all up in my grill; see photo evidence above. Anyway, she loves attention, so everyone, send Boo Yao your blog love.

Aside from kitties, I’ve been working on my Babushka Etsy shop update for September 1st! I’m really excited about it. It always feels nice to dream up a big goal and actually accomplish it. I’m really close, and the 1st is only a few days away. Anyhoo, I’m off to brunch and have face time with some of my favorite people, and then more crocheting. Happy Sunday, everyone!
